Please read this Privacy Policy ("Policy") carefully. It explains how Retirement.SG ("the Website", "the Service", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Website. By accessing or using the Website, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, you must immediately discontinue use of the Website.

This Policy should be read together with our Terms of Use, which are incorporated herein by reference.

1. About Retirement.SG

Retirement.SG is a free online financial planning tool operated by an individual developer. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Central Provident Fund Board, Housing Development Board, Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, Monetary Authority of Singapore, or any other Singapore government agency.

2. Commitment to Your Privacy

We take your privacy seriously. Retirement.SG is designed with privacy by default: the Website does not require account registration, does not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, NRIC, or address, and does not transmit any financial data you enter into its calculators to our servers.

All calculation inputs (salaries, CPF balances, expenses, etc.) are stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage on your own device. This data never leaves your browser unless you explicitly copy or export it.

3. Information We May Collect

3.1 Automatically Collected Data (Log Data and Analytics)

When you visit the Website, certain information is automatically collected by our hosting infrastructure and third-party analytics tools. This may include:

  • Your device's Internet Protocol ("IP") address (typically anonymised or truncated before storage)
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • Referring URL
  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Date and time of your visit
  • Approximate geographic region (country or city level, derived from IP)
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)

This information is collected in aggregate and is used solely to understand how the Website is used, diagnose technical issues, and improve the Service. It is not used to identify you as an individual.

3.2 Calculator Inputs

Any data you enter into Retirement.SG's calculators — including salary figures, CPF balances, expenses, age milestones, and investment values — is stored locally in your browser via localStorage. We do not receive, transmit, or store this data on any server we operate. If you clear your browser's local storage or use a private/incognito window, this data will be lost.

3.3 Contact and Feedback

If you contact us voluntarily (for example, to report an error or provide feedback), we will receive only the information you choose to share — typically your email address and the content of your message. This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry and is not shared with third parties except as required by law.

4. Google Analytics and Usage Tracking

The Website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC ("Google"). Google Analytics uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect and report information about how visitors use the Website.

The information generated by cookies about your use of the Website (including a truncated version of your IP address) is transmitted to and stored by Google on servers which may be located outside Singapore. Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate your use of the Website, compile reports on Website activity, and provide other services relating to Website activity and internet usage.

We may in future introduce additional analytics or error-monitoring tools. This Policy will be updated accordingly, and those tools will be identified here.

5. Cookies

5.1 What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They allow the website to remember information about your visit.

5.2 How We Use Cookies

Currently, Retirement.SG does not set any first-party cookies for functionality purposes. All user preferences and calculator data are stored in localStorage, not cookies.

However, third-party services we use (including Google Analytics) may set their own cookies on your device to perform analytics functions as described in Section 4. These are analytics cookies only and are not used to track you across unrelated websites for commercial advertising purposes.

In the future, we reserve the right to introduce:

  • First-party session or preference cookies to improve your experience;
  • Cookies associated with advertising or sponsored content (see Section 8 on Future Advertising).

Any future introduction of cookies beyond the current analytics cookies will be reflected in an updated version of this Policy.

5.3 Managing Cookies

Most web browsers automatically accept cookies. You may modify your browser settings to decline cookies or to alert you when a cookie is being sent. Please refer to your browser's help documentation for instructions.

Note that declining certain cookies may affect your ability to use some features of the Website or third-party analytics services.

6. Local Storage and Browser Data

Retirement.SG uses the browser's localStorage API to persist your calculator inputs between sessions on the same device and browser. This data:

  • Is stored only on your device;
  • Is not accessible to us or any third party;
  • Can be deleted at any time by clearing your browser's site data or local storage.

If you use the Website across multiple devices or browsers, your data will not automatically synchronise, as there is no server-side account or storage.

7. Third-Party Links and Services

The Website may contain links to external websites or resources. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the privacy practices or content of those websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites you visit.

Third-party services referenced or potentially integrated into the Website (including Google Analytics) operate under their own privacy policies, which we do not control.

8. Future Advertising

The Website is currently provided free of charge and without advertising. We reserve the right to introduce advertising or sponsored content in the future. Any advertising will be clearly identified as such. If advertising is introduced, this Policy will be updated to reflect any additional data collection practices associated with advertising partners or networks.

9. Personal Data Protection Act (Singapore)

To the extent that any personal data (as defined in the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA")) is collected from users in Singapore, we will handle such data in accordance with the PDPA.

As noted above, we do not deliberately collect personally identifiable information such as names, NRIC numbers, addresses, or financial account details. Any personal data you voluntarily provide (for example, in a contact or feedback message) will be:

  • Collected only for the purpose for which you provide it;
  • Not disclosed to third parties except where required by law or where you have consented; and
  • Retained only for as long as necessary for that purpose.

You may contact us to request access to, or correction of, any personal data we hold about you. Our contact details are provided in Section 14.

10. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect any information we handle against unauthorised access, disclosure, or loss. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and disclaim liability for any breach beyond our reasonable control.

Since calculator data is stored in your browser and never transmitted to us, the security of that data depends primarily on the security of your own device and browser.

11. Children's Privacy

The Website is not directed at persons under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child under 18 has provided personal data to us, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

12. International Visitors

The Website is operated from Singapore and is intended primarily for users in Singapore. If you access the Website from outside Singapore, please be aware that your information may be processed in Singapore or in other jurisdictions where our third-party service providers (including Google) operate. By using the Website, you consent to any such transfer and processing in accordance with this Policy.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time at our sole discretion. Changes take effect immediately upon posting to the Website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. It is your responsibility to review this Policy regularly. Continued use of the Website after any change constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.

15. Governing Law
